Meatball and Gobbolina - March 2010

Meatball and Gobbolina are often heard all the way from the volunteer camp roaring and generally making a bit of a fuss throughout the night! It’s a bit of a shock for new visitors on their first night but it can soon become a reassuring sound that they're close by and happy.

Meatball has taken a disliking to cameras and will roar at anyone who tries to take a snap of him, which was unfortunate for our resident Film Maker and Photographer Marsh, who needed to take some footage for a promotional video he’s producing for N/a’an ku sê. I don’t think he’ll be going back to visit Meatball in a hurry!

Gobbolina is on heat at the moment so Meatball is very protective of her. He thinks she might be carrying his cubs, so he puts her needs first and stands back and allows us to feed Gobbolina first and then he takes meat for himself. It's the only time that a male will allow the female to eat first.

Gobbolina has been sterilized so won't be breading, but Meatball doesn't know that! When they're eating, he frequently looks over at Gobbolina to see how she is. It’s lovely to see the close relationship between the two siblings.
